Product Review – Organic Root Stimulator Hair Mayonnaise

I regularly deep condition my hair with a moisturizing conditioner but I don’t often do a protein treatment. According to natural hair science we’re supposed to use both moisturizing and protein conditioners in order to achieve balanced healthy hair. With this is mind I reached for my pot of Organic Root Stimulator Hair Mayonnaise.

Here’s what I did:

  • Sectioned my hair,
  • Spritzed with water and leave-in conditioner to de-tangle
  • Applied ORS Hair Mayonnaise to sections, combed through then covered with a shower cap for 45 minutes
  • Rinsed off with water then washed my hair with sulphate-free shampoo
  • Deep conditioned for 20 minutes
  • Rinse off with water then applied leave-in conditioner
  • Air dried and put in twists overnight
  • Created flat twist updo the following day

The product has a strong ‘fragrance’. It smells like a mixture of natural ingredients with some chemicals thrown in. The consistency is thick like a hair whipped hair butter so you simply slap it on.

After rinsing the product off, my hair felt very hard but I wasn’t too worried as I knew I was going to wash it with a moisturizing shampoo. My hair still felt hard after shampooing but i thought maybe the deep conditioner would bring softness. It didn’t. I simply put this down to a characteristic of protein treatments. After all they are meant to strengthen the hair right?

Anyway, after my hair had dried I put in some twists with the hope of using my texture to create a funky updo for the week. That didn’t quite work out as the pictures below illustrate

I’m sure that you can see the ‘hardness’ in my hair. It was still feeling rough so I knew that a ‘free hair’ updo was out of the question. There was only one thing to do. I used some Organic Root Stimulator Carrot Oil (I like to stick to one brand at a time) to create my regular flat twist updo and that was that.

My overall view is that this product would work well for severely dry and heat damaged hair. I don’ t use heat on my hair so I didn’t consider my hair damaged but I think it did strengthen my hair and therefore wasn’t a complete waste of my time. This is not a product I  use frequently, every 4 months is sufficient.

Right now I can’t wait for wash day as the Carrot Oil has a strong carroty fragrance and I feel like a smell of carrot! I guess I’ll have just have to steer clear of any rabbits 🙂
